The Computer Science for Racial Justice (CS4RJ) project aims to support just and sustainable engagements in CS learning alongside Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) communities. This project specifically examines historical reauthoring, a version of digital “remixing” that encourages students to engage with the ethical and political dimensions of computing. We are working in partnership with community BIPOC educators to adapt and redesign historical reauthoring activities for library-based after school workshops. Our research explores whether and how (1) our collaborations were (un)just and (un)sustainable, and (2) students’ CS practices deepened. Findings will inform future programs that blend new pedagogical models and deep community engagement to work toward just visions of CS and the flourishing of BIPOC communities.
