Layered Landscapes in Palgrave Handbook of Climate Change Education

Jake, Helen, and Michelle contributed a chapter called Layered Landscapes: Critical Climate Cartography as a Pedagogical Framework to Bring Together Data, Experience, Science, and History to the recently published Palgrave Handbook of Climate Change Research in Transdisciplinary Education, edited by Asli Sezen-Barie and Sara Tolbert.

In the chapter, we consider how a sense of place can allow for different stories and subject areas – science, history, geography – to “stack” on top of each other and connect with our present day experience of the place. This concept encourages us to look at issues of climate and the environmenta through the lens of these multiple layers that shape a place, such as its natural ecosystems, its human history, and the power struggles or traditions tied to it. Check out the chapter here.
